The Indie Campers Travel Protection Program for Private Rentals

We have partnered with Vaudoise Assurances to provide top quality insurance to our swiss camper hosts. Our insurance partner Vaudoise Assurances ranks among the ten leading private insurers in the Swiss market. It offers customers local service and high-quality products for all sectors of insurance including insurance for motorhomes and vans.  

Vaudoise Assurances offers insurance coverage for private rentals on Indie Campers, the insurance includes third party liability (loss of bonus and deductible), comprehensive insurance and assistance coverage. The General Conditions of Insurance (GCI) can be found here.

How does Vaudoise Assurances Work for Hosts?

Don´t worry, the process is quite simple and automatic. As a campervan owner, you need valid vehicle insurance to participate in the Indie Campers’ marketplace. If your insurance does not cover the rental of your vehicle, we are here for you. Our partnership with Vaudoise Assurances offers insurance that will be automatically activated when you confirm your booking and is valid during the rental period when the booking is made through Indie Campers. This rental insurance is a complement to the vehicle’s road insurance, and Vaudoise Assurances provides additional insurance protection which covers potential damages to the vehicles during the rental. 

What does the insurance cover?

If your primary vehicle insurance does not cover any damages during renting it out, our Travel Protection Program has got you covered! The maximum amount that Vaudoise Assurances covers is CHF 150,000.00. Any additional parts and accessories are included in that amount. Here are some examples of damages that the insurance covers:

Collision - damage resulting from a sudden or violent action coming from an external force.

- deductible of CHF 2,000.00 per claim

Theft - vehicle theft; destruction or deterioration as a result of theft or robbery.

- deductible of CHF 200.00 per claim

Fire or Natural Forces - damage caused by fire of internal or external origin.

- deductible of CHF 200.00 per claim

Glass breakage - damage of the windscreen, side and rear windows, roof, headlamps, rear lights, indicators and rearview mirrors.

- deductible of CHF 200.00 per claim

Specific damages caused by - stones, collision with an animal, malicious acts, massive snow/ice, punctures, and automatic car wash.

- deductible of CHF 200.00 per claim

What is NOT included in the insurance?

  • Damage of the vehicle if it is caused by the host of the vehicle or any of the host´s family members and people living in the same household.
  • Damage to any items attached to or being transported in the vehicle.
  • Damages that accrued abroad during motor races, rallies and similar competitions, as well as during training sessions or any other form of driving (including upgrading sessions) on motor vehicle racetracks

Requirements for Hosts 

The host must be a Swiss resident with a fixed address, and the host must also be the official host of the camper. 

Vaudoise insurance is only active when your camper meets the following requirements:

  • It should be owned by a private person, and not a commercial business; 
  • It should be officially registered in the country of residence of the host;
  • It should have valid primary insurance and inspection documents;
  • It should not weigh more than 3.5T;
  • It should not have more than 9 seats;
  • It should be a: campervan, RV, motorhome, caravan, and other vehicles fitted out with sleeping berths.

In case of a breakdown/accident.

In the unfortunate case of a breakdown/accident, we are here to help and support you and your renter. 

24/7 Roadside Assistance (RSA)

If the vehicle is not drivable or the driver can't drive anymore, the traveller will get 24/7 assistance. RSA will take care of repairs on the spot, towing to the nearest garage or repatriation of the camper and travellers. The insurance will cover the costs for any necessary accommodation, competition of the journey and return home, and storage and loss assessment. The Roadside Assistance (RSA) contact information is in the handover log of Indie Campers.

How do I report a claim for damage that happened during the rental?

In case of damage that would be covered by the travel insurance program, a claim must be made as soon as possible. Here are the steps you need to take when you want to report a claim. 

Please report any damage to the vehicle that happened during a trip to  Indie Campers. Send an email to reservations@indiecampers.com, with the subject “Claim - Vaudoise Assurances”. Your email text should include the following information:

  • Your first and last name;
  • Your address;
  • Your contact information (phone and email);
  • Your date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY);
  • Traveller´s first and last name;
  • Traveller´s contact information;
  • Traveller´s report on how he/she was involved in this accident;
  • The exact location of the accident;
  • The date of the accident (MM/DD/YYYY);
  • The license plate number of the vehicle;
  • A detailed explanation of the accident;
  • Attach any photos, videos, and any relevant documents related to the accident.

Once we have received your claim, we will transfer your data to Vaudoise. If there will be any necessary further steps from your side, you will be contacted by Indie Campers or Vaudoise.

How does Vaudoise Assurances Work for Travelers?

We want to make sure that you enjoy your trip, that's why we have partnered with Vaudoise Assurances to provide you with the Indie Campers Travel Protection Program. With this partnership, we can offer you insurance for all kinds of damages that occur during your trip that you have booked through the Indie Campers Marketplace.

What does the insurance cover?

Travellers who booked their trip through private hosts at Indie Campers Marketplace are in most cases covered by our Travel Protection Program, against financial loss and roadside assistance.

Note: If the host has his own rental insurance, the rental will not be covered by Indie Camper Travel Protection Program. In this case, we advise you to check the insurance with the host.

Requirements for Travelers

The Traveler joins Indie Campers Travel Protection Program when they meet the following requirements:

  • The Traveler who drives the vehicle must be at least 23 years old;
  • The Traveler who drives the vehicle must have held a valid Category B driving license of at least 3 years;
  • Traveler’s driving license should have been issued in the EU, Switzerland, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and the UK;
  • Travelers' driving records should not include more than 2 accidents in the past 3 years, and no major convection (e.g. drunk driving) in the past 5 years.

Financial loss

In case a claim appears due to damage during your rental period, and you are part of the Indie Campers Travel Protection Program, our insurance covers the costs for any necessary accommodation, competition of the journey and return home, and storage and loss assessment.

In case of a breakdown/accident

In the unfortunate case of a breakdown/accident, we are here to help and support and guide you. Also, you should contact and inform your Host about what happened. Your Host can assist you on how to proceed, and what documentation you need to collect.

If the vehicle is not drivable or you can't drive anymore, you will get 24/7 assistance. RSA will take care of repairs on the spot, towing to the nearest garage or repatriation of the camper and travellers. The Roadside Assistance (RSA) contact information is in the handover log of Indie Campers.

Note: During pick-up, you need to make sure that you have a copy of the primary insurance of the vehicle, and all contact information.

If there is an accident, theft or relevant event, contact the police and make sure you get a police report to send to your host. Don´t forget to fill in the European Accident Form, and (if relevant) check that the other party does it too. To fill in this form, use the information of the primary insurance. Then, make a copy of this form and send it to your host.

To facilitate the claim handling, we strongly advise you to take pictures of the incident before you move the vehicle to another location. We advise you to take any relevant pictures of the damages and other vehicles involved (if any).
